So , driving home today my wife and I were behind a Prius in the left hand lane of a 3 lane freeway. We were behind him for several miles and he was borderline keeping pace with the center lane. There was no one in front of him. He then brakes with no one in front of him, so my wife uses the horn as a polite reminder that you don’t arbitrarily hit the brakes for no reason on a freeway. It wasn’t a brake check, it was just him hitting his brakes for no reason. After my wife uses her horn, he flips us the bird.
Did I miss something here? Are you supposed to stop randomly in the left lane of a freeway and I didn’t get the memo?
It amazes me how some people got their driver’s license.

Pass him on the shoulder, then stand on your brakes. Problem solved.
Either that or call him in as a suspected drunk and let the po-po waste some of his time (could have been drunk).
Reminds me of a scene years ago where I was behind a little old lady in a Grand Marquis. She’d gradually get up to the speed limit, then right when she hit it - tap the brakes. Over and over. And it was a two lane road with no passing.

Welcome to every single drive in Austin.
I had to lay on the horn, as much as I did not want to, when someone just stopped in the middle of a roundabout.
Fucking clueless. Random braking in the left lane on a freeway? That’s like, every 2 minutes.

Moral Relativism, car edition™
Seriously, the whole world seems to be in the mode of “I do what I want, and if you criticize me — even politely and with good intentions — you are a horrible person.”
Stop brake shaming people, you monster!

The courteous thing to have done is use your horn again in appreciation for his one finger wave.

He’s driving a Prius, so he’s better than you. You shouldn’t criticize your moral superiors.

Nice. Or at least don’t do it in an old sled that apparently has braking system issues and who knows what else is wrong.

Something funny, about Teslas though, is that autopilot sometimes brakes for no good reason; maybe a glitch in programming, and that can really bother other motorists

I’ve never actually tried. Although i don’t know how well it would work when I’m in a Corolla. If I was in a 76 Coup de Ville , that would be much better.

How dare I! I need to realize that the rules of the road are different for every driver.

I happens often here too. First time I've been flipped the bird though for telling someone not to be a jackass. Now most of the time people are so self absorbed they don't even notice when you give a little horn tap.

I was stuck behind a honda CR-V who wouldn’ t turn right with a green turn light shining bright as us. Gave em a short honk....nothing...honked twice....they look in their mirror and do nothing....laid on the horn.....middle finger ensues.

Usually most Prius drivers I encounter try to reenact the rental car scene from Days of Thunder.

Probably my biggest daily pet peeve is people that can’t read. I live off an exit where I have to pay a toll. I go through that exchange at least twice a day. There are two lanes. One coin lane, one E-ZPass.
At least 3-4 times a week there is someone who wants to pay cash in the E-ZPass lane. These lanes are clearly marked. Usually they will realize it before they get up to the receptacle and have to slow down the E-ZPass lane while they merge over.
Occasionally they will get to the receptacle and try to back up. With people behind them. A couple of years ago I almost got in to a fistfight with a guy who flat out refused to move. He kept getting closer and closer to me as he was backing up so just laid on my horn. He gets out of his bromobile to yell at me for not backing up. Even though I couldn’t move since there were 12 cars behind me. After me and the 5 cars behind me yelling at him we couldn’t back up he gets pissed off and hops the curb to get in to the other lane.

Was anybody in the right lane? That’s where I’d be, if it was available. I don ’t have the patience for sitting behind someone and waiting for them to notice me .

I never use the right lane on that road. Too many merges and slow traffic there.
Driving behind idiots I can see why some guys on sportkbikes drive like asshats. Not that that makes it right either, mind you, but I can see the frustration.

Very typical, especially in the DC area, and, I assume because of all the tourists, meth addicts, and elderly people, lower Delaware. They seem to also be the same drivers that will randomly speed up and slow down +/- 15mph on the highway with no one in front of them, or slam on their brakes as soon as they see a cop, even though they’re already going under the speed limit.

If I had to travel DC traffic I’d find a new job. The few times I’ve been there off peak near the Beltway I wanted to hang myself. Philly traffic is bad enough for me.
As for pet peeves with people and cops, I love the people that will slow to under the limit when they see a cop on the opposite side of a divided highway. News flash, they can't get you. Especially when they are in the middle of a traffic stop.

No it’s a typical Prius driver. They are clueless, they think the left lane is where they belong. They are the morons.

Reminds me of turning left onto a local road. It’s a double turn lane onto a 3 lane road. The right lane is supposed to turn into the middle, left lane into the left lane.
I am in the right lane, there’s a CUV in the left lane.
As i’m completing my turn into the middle lane the CUV driver continues from his lane into mine. I laid on the horn. He jerked the wheel left causing him to run over the curb then slam back onto the road. He then proceeded to gun it back next to me and start yelling at his window and flipping me the bird.
I still try to figure out how I was the jackass in this?
